Men raping women – a disturbing world wide trend

Men raping women – a disturbing world wide trend

Read my Facebook post about the disturbing trend about women being raped and sexually assaulted by men that went viral last week..

Well, I just watched quite a disturbing story on 60 Minutes about three expat girls who were drugged and raped overseas in South Korea and Japan. The most worrying part of course was the role by the local authorities in failing to prosecute any of the perpetrators. In fact , if it wasn’t terrible enough that they were subjected to this horror….they were even asked meaningless questions like “What were you wearing? or “Why were you drinking in a bar?”….questions that intentionally place the focus on the victims while the perpetrator becomes invisible.

All this of course is part of a disturbing trend around the world where men or “male culture” feel its not only ok,.. but somehow their right to rape, sexually assault or objectify women. This “normalization” is suddenly occurring across the globe. South Africa, parts of Africa and South America are all reporting a disturbing trend of women being raped and gang raped on mass.

Of course there are very worrying signs much closer to home with our wonderful aliasthe USA – last year there were over 100 000 reports of sexual assault against female students – by college boys – simply amongst the top 100 US colleges alone. Yes that right, those figures are correct…and here’s the kicker… only 2% of these reports ever leads to a prosecution. WHY? because the prosecution of a rape charge would not look too good on the colleges own “report card”. (Its all about the money folks)

So just like the backward degenerate corrupt police offices in third world countries…..the board and administrators of some of the most prestigious colleges in the US also cover up these sexual assault charges and do their best to persuade these female victims ofthe futility of taking any further action (don’t believe me? Google the documentary – “The Hunting Grounds”).

Since when do so many men around the world now feel its ok to rape women?..what’s happening in our world?

BUT….here’s the real question….Why do so many “good” men stand by and do nothing and allow this to happen? In doing nothing we are simply complicit in allowing this rise in sexual assaults against women to continue to rise.

What’s the answer? Well, maybe its a small word called “fatherhood”. What we desperately need right now are for fathers everywhere to raise boys to not only respect and protect women. But perhaps even more important is that we raise courageous boyswith a strong moral compass who will “confront other men” and DEFEND women against any man who thinks its his god given right to dominate, violate or assault any womathe futility of taking any further action (don’t believe me? Google the documentary – “The Hunting Grounds”).

Martin Luther King said it best…”Our world begins to end the moment we remain silent about things that matter”. Well…if anyone reading this has a daughter…..WAKE UP…THIS MATTERS!!

Subsequently , after this post went viral, one of the women in the 60 Minutes story who was raped saw my post and tracked me down. She rang me in my lounge room later that night to thank me personally for posting this on Facebook.

Lets raise strong courageous boys so we can put an end to this disturbing behaviour.

warm regards

  1. Wow mate what a beautiful and, especially as a woman, affirming piece – thank you for your compassion and for your intensely good so needed work in spreading positive learnings – I couldn’t agree with everything you’ve said more than if I’d written myself and like I said its powerfully affirming to hear a man talk this way and encourage other men and boys – I think it is the only way we will save our humanity – LOVE your work xixHillary
